TEACHERS in young offenders institutions and units run by social services departments will be eligible for performance-related rises once the current round of applications has been cleared.

Schools minister Estelle Morris told James Clappison, Conservative ducation spokesperson, that these staff were excluded from the first round of threshold applications because they were not covered by schoolteachers’ pay and conditions. Prisons and institutions run by social services have pressed to be in the scheme.
