Until now the Petrie Collection of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology has been available only to those who can make an afternoon trip to central London. Now 80,000 objects have been photographed and annotated on an online database to make it open to visitors world-wide. The museum specialises in personal rather than monumental items. The world’s oldest dress and a marvellous collection of mummy portraits are especially likely to appeal to key stage 2 pupils, while AS students will find a challenge in comparing hundreds of articles from the time of Akhenaten, crossing millennia effortlessly at the click of a mouse. The Petrie Collection is at www.petrie.ucl.ac.uk Two related sites about a Middle Kingdom “pyramid” town are at www.kahun.ucl.ac.uk and www.kahun.man.ac.uk
