Teachers will receive the 3.3 per cent pay rise recommended by the School Teachers’ Review Body in two phases, Education and Employment Secretary Gillian Shephard has confirmed.
Mrs Shephard told employers and unions the phasing - 2 per cent paid on April 1 and the remainder to be paid from December 1 - would protect service levels and make the award more manageable for local education authorities and schools.
The formal announcement marks the end of the statutory consultation period following the review.
