JAPAN: The rapid spread of high-tech phones among the young, has created the first recorded victim of bullying via a camera-enabled mobile.
Pictures of a girl taken with a camphone were transmitted via e-mail to more than 10,000 people with a derisive message identifying her by name and slandering her, officials at the victim’s Osaka school said. As a result, the victim was identified and spoken to by strangers.
Lighter and cheaper than in the West, more than 50 per cent of mobile phones sold in Japan have camera functions.
