I read with interest but then some surprise the article on schemes for slow readers. Readers may have been misled by comments on the Phonological Awareness Training programme.
PAT, which was developed in Buckinghamshire and of which we are proud, is intended for use as part of a comprehensive approach to literacy. As such its effectiveness has been demonstrated through carefully controlled evaluation studies.
The PAT programme remains extremely popular with teachers across the UK and internationally as a useful, practical and successful resource.
