In the debate on the impact of larger classes, are we paying enough attention to what this will do to teachers?
Three or four extra pupils in a Year 11 English class can represent an extra 45 minutes’ marking, and already far too much marking is done at 10pm or later. This leaves teachers little time for any real chance to refresh themselves before the following day’s work.
Do we really want our children to be taught by zombies? As a recently retired English teacher, my great joy is to have time to read books again.
