The Scottish Office has moved for the first time to deregister a playgroup. The group, in Bowmore on Islay, will no longer be eligible for Government funds.
The decision follows an HMI report which did not criticise standards of care, but found that the education offered was unsatisfactory. The Bowmore group will be able to reapply for grant registration if improvements are made. Playgroups have been subject to inspection since nursery voucher pilots began last August.
