Some games provide more than fun. Christian Aid has updated two excellent activities, using recent statistics to highlight the inequities of the global economy. The Paper Bag Game (for ages nine and above) lasts for about 45 minutes and allows players to imagine life in Calcutta for children who are struggling to make a living against the pressures of poverty and the clock. The Trading Game (for ages 13 and above) lasts twice as long. Some players will never have a real chance of winning, as in the real world. The subsequent discussion is as absorbing and important as the game itself. The Paper Bag Game (reference P7) costs pound;3.99 and The Trading Game (reference P6) costs pound;3.50 from Christian Aid, PO Box 95, Aldershot GU12 4BR.
