Key stage 2 children can play the role of building site safety inspector on the website of SPLAAT (Safe Play At All Times). Building Site Safety, a study pack from Laing Homes and ROSPA, supplements the message with thought-provoking activities in literacy and ICT. Children can analyse and edit different texts: a letter of complaint to a site manager, a playscript featuring horseplay that goes tragically wrong, formal and journalistic reports. Linguistic awareness and self-preservation develop together. The pack is being distributed free to schools in the South East and Midlands. The pack is linked to the video Game Over, available from HSE Books, Tel: 01787 881165 www.hsebooks. co.uk The video is free for schools and pound;25 + vat for others. The game and the pack can be downloaded at www.splaat.com.
