STRESS management and access to a specialised counselling service were demanded by delegates. They said problems of stress continued to blight teachers’ lives. Rick Preston, from Oldham, has not worked in a classroom for three years because of depression and anxiety. “My psychiatrist believes the Department for Education and Skills should give large amounts of money to the NHS for the damage it inflicts on teachers.”
