Plea for music

I am writing as a concerned Aberdeen resident and mum to ask for support to save Aberdeen City Council’s music service.

A proposal to close the service will go before the finance committee at the beginning of December and, if approved, to full council on December 18, so time is very short. An alternative proposal to privatise the service will result just as surely in its closure.

I am concerned that the function of music-making in schools is not fully understood. It seems to be seen as a luxury item that can be removed without too much heartache in times of financial constraint.

Music-making is one of the most cost-effective ways of combating alienation among young people and thus reducing the high costs involved in dealing with this.
