David Henderson reports from the NASUWT conference at Seamill on growing classroom disquiet over indiscipline
THERE were 10,900 young people in local authority care at the end of March last year, a 4 per cent decrease on the year before. This represents 10 in every thousand under-17s, but ranges from 3.1 per thousand under-17s in East Renfrewshire to 18.5 in Glasgow.
In an ambitious response, Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Young People, said:
“Our eventual aim is that all looked after children perform as well as their peers at school, that they have the same opportunities for training and further education and that they find employment and successfully make the transition to independent adult life.”
