ABERDEEN has been quick off the mark to establish new community learning points in the city.

This follows the latest lifelong learning action plan from Scottish Enterprise, a pound;160 million package, called Know How, it will establish 100 online centres by December next year aimed at improving access to IT-based learning.

The Aberdeen plan will start in August, following approval by the council’s education committee. Six secondary schools will each make available a furnished room in which Aberdeen College will install computer systems and run courses for local people.

Rae Angus, principal of Aberdeen College, said the collaboration with schools reflected the twin aims of collaboration and widening access. “Together, we are bringing state-of-the-art facilities to the communities we serve, as near to people’s doorsteps as we can,” Mr Angus said.
