It was all about new beginnings and glad confident mornings at the recent Carnoustie conference of educational advisers.

But some things are not as new as they might seem, as president Tommy Doherty admitted during his introduction of our own Morris Simpson (aka John Mitchell) as the after-dinner speaker.

At his first advisers conference in 1994, Mitchell had also been the after-dinner speaker (enough advertising - Ed). Even more interestingly, he pointed out, the theme of that long-distant conference 11 years ago, had been “Developing the Developers”.

And this year’s slogan for the newly entitled Association of Educational Development and Improvement Professionals in Scotland? “Improving the Improvers”, of course.

The more things change . . .
