IT’S a perk of power to go back to those places where you were the put-upon junior and tell the people there what you really thought. Estelle Morris has just waited longer than most.

The school standards minister has lodged a belated (by 35 years) complaint about the quality of the food at her primary school. “The only time I cried at school was when I had to eat the dinners,” she recalled on a trip back to Rackhouse School in Wythenshawe, near Manchester.

Records presented to the minister reveal she had a top attendance record and was in the top stream. She also, pictures reveal, had exactly the same haircut as she does now ...
