Using a Multisensory Environment. By Paul Pagliano. David Fulton pound;14.
This is Paul Pagliano’s second book on multisensory environments and it gives the teacher rather more than the promised practical ideas and suggestions for use with pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties - it also helps readers to refocus on what makes any successful teaching strategy.
It covers the establishment of the environments themselves; the use of assessment to audit the pupils’ ability and circumstances; development of appropriate teaching strategies; and the collaborative approach to delivering the curriculum.
Each section is summarised, and at all points,“the child” is the starting point, with the phrase “meaningful to the child” occurring more than once.
A useful set of appendices provides photocopiable observation and assessment forms.
