* I was amazed to hear Charles Clarke mention Alice in Wonderland and education in the same breath. Obviously this is a man lacking any sense of irony! Here are some characters from the Alice books, with people or organisations they resemble: Cheshire Cat - Tony Blair Mad Hatter - Chris Woodhead Alice’s trial - Ofsted inspections Alice - Today’s children trapped in a confusing and unreal world The white rabbit (always disappearing into the distance) - government targets Dormouse - the NASUWT, which appears to be permanently hibernating.
