* I echo Jim Barrett’s opinions (TES, April 9) and would like to add that the 11-plus seems to be coming back.

What else, after all, is the meaning of young Fraser Goatcher’s Sats results determining which stream he’s placed in at secondary school?

While I support tests and streaming, I would “moderate” them - only test in English and maths and streaming to start after the first term or year at secondary school.

Let them all start at the same level to show what they can do. The thing about Sats is that teachers take them too seriously and “infect” too many parents and pupils.
