Points of view

* The controversy about Prince Harry's fancy dress costume should lead ministers to reflect on the dangers of a narrow curriculum.

The Government needs to be persuaded of the central importance of history in schools: at all ages and stages. Children need historic as well as phonic literacy. The implications of a neglect of history are dangerous and totally unacceptable.
