I CONGRATULATE Sarah and Patrick Fielding in sharing the headship of the Mayflower school (TES, November 22), but it really is untrue to say that they are the “first couple”. My wife and I have been doing it since 1981 and we are not alone in the independent setor, which caters for 7 per cent (or three counties’ worth) of the nation’s pupils. Please qualify your reports to say the first state school couple.
