Points of view

I noted the article "Brightest switch off in physics blight" (TES, February 7) on the growing shortage of physics teachers.

A retired friend of mine, Dr Bob Perrin, formerly of Loughborough University physics department, published a research paper on this question some years ago. His conclusion was that people who become physics graduates tend to be of a personality type that does not want to work with children.
