Anybody making use of the kind of services mentioned in your article “What can cure a lonely heart?” (TES, February 14) should be aware that such organisations are usually only offering advertising. For a substantial registration fee all that is offered are names and addresses. There have already been legal challenges about the quality of service that was eventually offered after registration fees had been paid.

According to the national press one recent user of a supposedly reputable organisation was sold 11 names and addresses before finding any party that was willing to meet.

A far more useful and practical service would be payments per meeting only.
