I gave up membership of the National Union of Teachers many years ago when it favoured teachers going on strike. Now, however, I agree strongly with its views on boycotting national tests which mistake instruction for education. The Cockcroft Report (1982) stated, rightly, that “no one ever grew as a result of being measured”.
