When Labour gained power, the very first action they took was to move responsibility for setting interest rates out of the political arena to a monetary policy committee. The new regime has been a success: witness low rates and transparency surrounding the decisions taken.
Would it not be equally prudent to remove education from the political arena (particularly funding which is subject to the obvious dominance of the Treasury) and hand control to a truly independent authority?
