Almost a fifth of primary teachers have been subject to sexually abusive insults from pupils, an NUT survey has found. The union, which surveyed primary and secondary teachers, also found some children use foreign swear words.

Steve Sinnott, the general secretary, said: “Sexist jokes, put-downs and harassment in schools all help to create an atmosphere in which female pupils and teachers feel degraded. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable.”
