I despair at the Government’s plans for more church, specialist and gimmicky beacon schools (”‘Post-comprehensive’ plans condemned”, TES, February 16 ).

Comprehensive schools should specialise in offering childrn high-quality teaching in the widest possible choice of subjects, rather than divisive religious bigotry or fashionable science or language specialisms.
