The West Lothian Schools Brass Band has won the top youth brass band in Britain title for the second year running. Its cornet player, Caroline Munro, won the best soloist prize.

Thirty-five bands competed in five classes for the coveted title of National Youth Champions. The West Lothian Schools Brass Band performed in the highest, Premier class, playing two works by composers Philip Wilby and Peter Graham to win the accolade.

West Lothian schools also won recognition when Broxburn Academy’s and West Calder High’s concert bands won bronze awards and the West Lothian Schools Jazz Orchestra won silver at the National Concert Band Festival.
