THREE out of four secondary pupils have no intention of becoming teachers, a survey by MORI reveals. One in three cited poor pay, just under half said the main disincentive was lack of respect while more than half worried about stress levels. Only one in 20 said they were “very likely” to become teachers. The study, commissioned by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, suggests teaching is even less popular than last year, despite the Government’s promotion campaign.
