“If you think something can’t be done or achieved you will give up; if you think positively, there is a good chance it will happen,” writes Rhianne Stewart, a third-year pupil at Inverurie Academy.

Rhianne is one of 250 young people who have contributed their visions and hopes for the future to a new book, Learning for Life: From Inspiration to Aspiration. It was launched yesterday at the Scottish Parliament with First Minister Alex Salmond, Finance Secretary John Swinney, Karen Whitefield, convener of the education committee, and businessman Sir Tom Farmer in attendance.

“Learning for Life provides an invaluable exercise in self-discovery that helps young people develop a can-do attitude,” said Sir Tom. “It encourages them to do their best to realise their gifts and talents.”
