KAREN Gold’s article raises some interesting questions about the nature of citizenship (TES, December 29).
As a temporary teacher working on citizenship in the context of a Year 11 social education programme I favour a liberal humanist approach. I see this new subject as an opportunity to besubversive, to offer a critique to pupils of issues like class, equality, social exclusion and totalitarianism.
My intention is intensely political and maybe even politically biased - oops! I broke the law again.
