* In your analysis you measure the level of government expenditure on education by using the percentage of GDP (“Rise in spending doubled by Labour”, TES, March 16).

This measure is widely used by economists but I am not convinced it provides a fair comparison between countries in th case of education spending .

With the UK having one of the highest birth rates in the West, you would expect our country to spend proportionately more on education because there are more children to educate.
