* Many husbands of teachers will sympathise with Nigel Youds, bemoaning the loss of his girlfriend to a postgraduate certificate in education course (“The PGCE course stole my girlfriend”, TES, March 9).

But I bet many of us had to stifle a laugh. He has yet to play Santa Claus,strip classroom walls, arrange classroom furniture, edit school accounts, photocopy worksheets and act as chauffeur to and from training meetings, to mention but a few secenarios.
