I WAS interested to read (TES, February 1) that “a typical teacher lives in a detached house, owns a new-ish car, holidays abroad” - not here in Wokingham they don’t!

A typical detached house in our area works out at pound;280,000. Teachers can only aspire to the standards of living quoted if their partner has a proper job.

The answer is simple - teachers in the South-east must be paid significantly more; after all the children here deserve teachers just as much as any others.
