* We are told that 19,000 forces personnel have held the fire- fighting line in the strike by 55,000 firefighters. I wonder if 19,000 classroom assistants could replace 55,000 teachers? Unlike our firefighters, teachers have accepted modernisation. Results have climbed year on year. We have delivered. Yet, where is our substantial pay rise, overtime, or resources to do the job? We are still working nearly 60 hours a week and being paid for 35. No wonder our brightest and best are voting with their feet when it comes to teaching.
