* David Miliband’s letter (TES, December 6) is a con. The minister says proposed planning, preparation and assessment time will come within the “contractual” 32.5 hours per week. What contract is he talking about? Mine has no limits on working time. Teachers already work well over 50 hours per week planning, preparing and assessing for their 27.5 hours’ teaching time. They certainly all work more than the 32.5 hours’ directed time. The only way this PPA time will impact on workload will be if it occurs during the pupil week. Just rearranging hours during directed time will be as irrelevant as rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic.
