YOUR report on the ballot results for teacher members of the General Teaching Council (TES, April 28) sought to explain Rosemary Clarke’s and David Belfield’s top polling by the position of their names in the alphabet.

OK, the yellow pages for taxis include many AAA and A1s but I reject te idea that people get top jobs because of their initial. Could it be that Rosemary and David work in a large education authority with good professional networks and a reputation for working well with teacher unions?
