I REMEMBER my best teacher, Miss Wilson, not for her teaching but because she visited me 69 years ago when I was taken to hospital with suspected appendicitis.
I had just started at grammar school and she had joined the school as a newly qualified teacher of maths - a subject I have ejoyed all my life.
By her visit to a very new pupil, she made me realise that teachers were human beings and did not live in the school. She might have been pleased to know that, eventually, I too became a teacher.
