THE private sector is to provide pound;1 billion for schools repairs and refurbishment through the Private Finance Initiative, education minister Jacqui Smith has announced. So far 37 projects with private backing, involving 600 schools, have been approved. These include the rebuilding of five primary schools in Sandwell, West Midlands.
