A pound;1.5 million pilot programme to raise achievement among ethnic-minority pupils was unveiled by Education Secretary David Blunkett. The cash will go to 10 Excellence in Cities areas to fund projects using learning mentors, trget-setting and greater community involvement to improve standards. Mr Blunkett said that while GCSE results among black pupils had improved faster than among their white counterparts, the gap remained too great.
