The Department for Education and Skills will pay for a pound;224 million database enabling people who work with children to share information. It will contain basic facts about the children, along with contact details for parents and care workers. It will cost pound;41m a year, and was proposed following social services’ failure to prevent the death of Victoria Climbie, eight.
