A maths teacher who strained knee ligaments after slipping on a chip outside her school canteen five years ago was awarded pound;55,000 in compensation last week. Aileen Gilmour, 62, had been carrying jotters and her handbag when she slipped and fell on a ramp at Mearns Castle high school in Newton Mearns. At the Court of Session in Edinburgh, a judge ruled that East Renfrewshire council should have foreseen the risk.
