Budding film, television and radio professionals are being targeted by a new pound;6 million fund launched by the Government. Mediabox is designed to give young people from groups under-represented in the media the chance to develop their skills by undertaking projects.

Grants of between pound;1,000 and pound;80,000 are available for 13 to 19-year-olds for projects to be completed by March.

Beverley Hughes, the young people’s minister, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get some hands-on experience and to showcase what they are capable of.”
