The assembly government is pumping an extra Pounds 165 million in capital investment into schools and colleges across Wales.

The new funding, which is in addition to Pounds 170m of capital spending already announced over the past eight months, is intended to deliver schools fit for the 21st century.

It will fund 19 projects, including six new primary schools. More than Pounds 18m will go to post-16 education.

Announcing the funding, Jane Hutt, the education minister, said it would have a huge impact on schools and ensure that young people are learning in modern facilities.

Teachers’ unions welcomed the extra funding, which they said was long overdue.
