AN extra Pounds 7 million is to be spent training people to work with children as part of the Govern-ment’s national childcare strategy.

Margaret Hodge, the employment and equal opportunities minister, said parents had in the past been let down by “substandard childcare that amounted to little more than babysitting”. The money will go to training and enterprise councils to offer childcare workers more formal qualifications.
