New training options for the unemployed in the independent Beaumont Committee review of national vocational qualifications lack vital practical skills needed for work, says the Further Education Development Agency.

The review earlier this month called for a part one NVQ to include only the knowledge and understanding needed to prepare for a job, leaving specific skills training to employers.

But FEDA chief executive Stephen Crowne said a lack of practical skills would jeopardise job prospects.
