A primary teacher admitted he was “sexually attracted” to children after being caught downloading pornographic videos. Colin Chisholm worked as a specialist teacher for autistic pupils at Edinburgh’s St Cuthbert’s Primary when images of boys and girls as young as six being sexually abused were found on his home computer. He pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to possession of indecent images of children.

A boy of four hurled a brick at his teacher, according to official records on school attacks. Other incidents included a six-year-old boy hitting his teacher with a bin. Figures from a Freedom of Information request showed primary teachers in Scotland have suffered 5,400 violent acts in the past three years.

Edinburgh University has created a new chair of Indian studies to help strengthen its links with the Asian country.

It is hoped that the post will lead to the establishment of a centre for contemporary Indian studies in the capital.

School dinners price hike

Children will have to pay 17 per cent more for their school dinners this year compared with last, according to a new survey. Consumer watchdog Which? also found that parents would rather give their children packed lunches, as they are cheaper and many youngsters don’t like school dinners.
