School violence prevention programme to be extended

- A pioneering pilot scheme in Scottish secondary schools to tackle violence by men against women is to be rolled out to further council areas. The pound;40,000 project - developed by Strathclyde Police’s Violence Reduction Unit - was introduced last year in two schools in Inverclyde and Edinburgh.
Universities under fire for degree `inflation’

- Record numbers of students are graduating from Scotland’s universities with first or upper-class degrees, prompting calls for the 200-year-old classification system to be scrapped. Figures show 70 per cent of students leave university with a first or a 2:1, compared with 64 per cent a decade ago and 56 per cent in 1994.
`When Euan died, we all died a little’

- The parents of a schoolboy who died after he was punched in class by a fellow pupil said they “all died a little” after the tragedy. Richard and Ann Craig said they were devastated by the death of their 14-year-old son, Euan, in May. Another 14-year-old from Euan’s Glasgow school has pled guilty to culpable homicide.

- A schoolboy who became an internet sensation thanks to his money-making charity sketches has won a major award. Jack Henderson auctioned his drawings to raise funds for the hospital treating his little brother, Noah. Jack, now 7, raked in more than pound;33,000 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation in Edinburgh.
Teenagers admit stabbing teacher

- Two teenagers admitted taking part in the stabbing of a teacher who tried to stop a neighbour’s car being stolen. Liam Brown and Kieran Mason attacked John Howson outside the victim’s home in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, in October last year. The pair left the 57-year-old chemistry teacher for dead but he survived.
