The First Minister this week launched a web-based education package of anti-sectarian resources during a visit to Woodlands primary in Cumbernauld, which has been using it with neighbouring St Margaret of Scotland primary.

Jack McConnell said: “Scotland will never be free of the shackles of sectarianism unless we teach our youngsters that bigotry is wrong.”

The education pack was piloted in Highland, Dundee, Dumfries and Galloway, North Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire - areas chosen to reflect the view that sectarianism and religious intolerance are not confined to the west of Scotland.

A ministerial group on sectarianism had its first meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Cathy Jamieson, Justice Minister.
