The Scottish Badminton Union is to launch mini badminton in Scottish primary schools. Developed by Alan Campbell, the director of coaching who is now with the Scottish Sports Council, the new game will be introduced in the summer term and information will be going to every school in Scotland.
“We aim to hit primary schools in April, May and June and we will also be targeting sports centres in the summer,” Fiona McEwan, the SBU’s vice-president, says. McEwan has taken over responsibility for the project and is working on a manual.
“Basically the shuttles will be the same in the modified game but rackets will be shorter, although the heads will be the same size. The game is reasonably simplistic and we are aiming at the five to nine-year-olds.”
