Kings, queens and rulers

Interactive lessons on world-changing leaders

TESiboard has chosen 24 world rulers whose influence has been felt throughout the ages.

This collection of interactive resources is suitable for key stage 2 pupils, and presents them with a fun way to learn about influential kings, queens and rulers, and offers activities that encourage writing.

Included is an interactive encyclopaedia, which allows pupils to learn about specific rulers, as well as their surroundings, clothing and weapons.

The information is also offered in a mock website. Accompanying flashcards, posters and worksheets encourage pupils to apply their knowledge on the subject.

Other activities in the collection include a stamp-sorting exercise in which pupils use what they have found in the interactive encyclopaedia or on the website to categorise up to eight rulers according to different criteria and create a “set”.

Information texts

Wild ways to gather facts and take on topics

Key stage 1 pupils can practise how to find information quickly and efficiently, as well as learn about a variety of topics in the curriculum in the “information texts” resource collection from TESiboard.

The interactive information texts cover mammals and birds; minibeasts; reptiles and amphibians; plants and trees; space and toys; and vehicles.

The texts are available in two versions: the “listen and read” books have simpler text and full sound support for younger or emerging readers, whereas the “read alone” books are suitable for more confident readers as they have detailed text and minimal sound support.

All of the topics also have supporting resources to accompany them. This includes a mock website that encourages children to search for the information themselves. Pupils can then use this information to take part in the “decision tree” activity, which asks them to sort material by creating a branching database using their own “yesno” questions

Rocking recipes

Baking, making and a dash of creating

This collection of resources contains recipes and ideas for baking and making in primary school. Cooking activities are a fun way to encourage healthy eating at school. They also give pupils a greater understanding of where food comes from.

For early years and key stage 1 pupils, rebecca_louise_691 shared a presentation for the interactive whiteboard on how to make your own bread.

To make healthy eating more fun, try GreatGrubClub’s pirate-themed party food. Recipes for healthy treats such as a banana pirate ship and desert islands (fruit and jelly) are displayed on a treasure map, which can be used when teaching a pirate topic, or for fun.

Foodafactoflife has shared lesson ideas to aid the teaching of healthy living to five to eight-year-olds. There are recipes for healthy snacks such as fruit smoothies and fruit kebabs, as well as a series of cooking videos that show children how to prepare food safely.

Other resources include recipes and activities for foods from all over the world, which could easily be incorporated into geography lessons. Send a Cow has shared instructions for an African banana snack.
